- Installation That Works on D17 Engines: Clean the aluminum cylinder head rail and valve cover channel until completely oil-free. Apply a small dab of RTV silicone only at the four corners of the cam bearing half-moon recesses — these are the primary leak points. Do not coat the full gasket. Tighten all valve cover bolts in a criss-cross pattern, two passes, to 9.8 N·m (7.2 lb-ft / 87 in-lb). Over-torque can distort the aluminum cover or crush the bolt grommets. A calibrated torque wrench is strongly recommended
- Replace Worn Grommets to Prevent Seepage: Old, hardened bolt grommets reduce clamping pressure and allow oil to weep past the bolt heads.
